Eagle Academy II remains the standard in 4A, Madison picked up another convincing win, Roosevelt delivered a shutout, and Stuyvesant continued a strong early-season run.
Eagle II Handles Wagner
Eagle Academy II stayed unbeaten with a 36–6 win over Wagner Sunday, improving to 5–0.
The Eagles have now followed impressive out-of-state wins over Friendship Collegiate and Archbishop Hoban by opening PSAL play with victories over Lincoln, Erasmus Hall and Wagner. After beating Erasmus 22–7 last week, Eagle II has allowed just 13 points through its first three league games. (MaxPreps). At this point, the conversation isn’t whether Eagle II belongs at the top of the PSAL. It’s which city team is ready to seriously challenge them.
Madison Keeps Building
James Madison High School continued its strong start with a 36–26 victory over Bayside. The Golden Knights have emerged as one of the teams worth watching outside the 4A spotlight, while Bayside dropped to 0–2. (MaxPreps). The schedule gets more interesting immediately. Madison gets Stuyvesant next, giving us a useful measuring-stick game between two teams that have produced convincing early results.
Roosevelt Pitches a Shutout
Roosevelt handled Midwood 25–0 Friday. Midwood has now dropped its first two games, while Roosevelt’s defense produced one of the cleaner results of the weekend.
Stuyvesant Keeps Winning
Stuyvesant High School beat John Jay 35–14, moving to 3–1. The Peglegs have now won three straight after opening with a loss to JFK, including a 44–7 victory over Bayside. That makes next week’s matchup with Madison considerably more interesting than it might have looked a month ago.
Around the PSAL
Tottenville-South Shore was a one sided game dominated by Tottenville, who beat the Vikings 35-0. Erasmus Hall-Brooklyn Tech saw the debut of Tommy Zeh. Zeh led the Dutchmen to a 35-7 victory over the Engineers. In the 3A, APR had a huge 39-8 win over Lehman. Zahaire Jones scored twice against the lions with a 70 yard TD run and a 30 yard TD reception. In the 2A, Grand Street Campus, rebounded from a season opening loss to East Harlem Pride with a 24-12 win over Christopher Columbus.
ATS Takeaway
Eagle II continues to create separation. The Eagles are 5–0, have beaten quality competition outside New York City and have now handled three straight PSAL opponents. The question becomes whether Curtis, Tottenville, JFK, Erasmus or somebody else can make the 4A race uncomfortable. Below 4A, Madison and Stuyvesant are two teams worth following closely. Both are winning, and they’ll get an opportunity to settle some of that discussion on the field.
What to Watch Next
Madison vs. Stuyvesant on Friday, October 9 is one of the more interesting games outside 4A. Stuyvesant enters having won three straight, while Madison is coming off a 36-point performance against Bayside. In 4A, the bigger picture remains unchanged.
Everybody is still chasing Eagle II.
