CHSFL Weekend Wrap: Sea Keeps Rolling, Kellenberg Gets a Needed Win

The CHSFL picture continues to shift as October begins. St. Joseph-by-the-Sea backed up its biggest win of the season, Kellenberg responded in a competitive matchup with Fordham Prep, and St. Anthony’s ran into a major roadblock after two strong weeks.

Sea is Becoming Difficult to Ignore
Sea followed its 34–23 road win over Stepinac with a 28–7 victory over St. Francis Prep on Friday. That gives Sea consecutive wins over Stepinac and St. Francis Prep after its loss to Iona Prep. The Stepinac victory got everyone’s attention. Following it with another three-touchdown win matters just as much. Sea is beginning to build consistency instead of living off one big result.

Kellenberg Responds

Kellenberg beat Fordham Prep 28–20 after the teams went to halftime tied 7–7. The Firebirds improved to 3–2, while Fordham Prep fell to 2–3. This was an important result for Kellenberg after the one-point loss to Cardinal Hayes. The Firebirds have been competitive throughout the opening month, and this time they finished the job in the second half.

St. Anthony’s Gets a Reality Check

After consecutive wins over Stepinac and Xavier, the Friars entered Saturday looking like one of the league’s hottest teams. Iona Prep changed that quickly. The Friars lost 49–0, falling to 2–3. It was their first time being shut out this season and a sharp reminder of the separation that can still exist at the top of AAA. One loss doesn’t erase what St. Anthony’s did the previous two weeks, but the response now matters.

ATS Weekend Standouts

Brayden Farrelly — Kellenberg
223 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, 75% completions.
Farrelly helped Kellenberg break a 7–7 halftime tie and secure the 28–20 win over Fordham Prep.

Ryan Kuntz — Kellenberg
109 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns.
Kuntz provided the big-play production in one of Kellenberg’s more important wins of the young season.

ATS Takeaway

Sea is building a resume. The Vikings beating Stepinac was a statement. Coming back the next week and comfortably handling St. Francis Prep makes the statement more credible.

Kellenberg also deserves credit. The Firebirds have now shown they can rebound from the kind of one-point loss that can linger.

St. Anthony’s is the team facing the biggest question coming out of the weekend. Two impressive wins pushed the Friars back into the conversation, but Saturday showed there is still work to do.

What to Watch Next

Next weekend brings another strong slate. St. Anthony’s hosts St. Peter’s on Friday, October 9, while Kellenberg travels to St. John the Baptist on Saturday, October 10. Stepinac visits Chaminade that afternoon as well. The league is moving beyond September performances now. October is where teams have to prove they can do it week after week.
