CHSFL MONDAY MORNING WRAP-UP
Hayes Survives, Farrell Dominates and St. Anthony’s Breaks Through
The CHSFL delivered one of its most interesting weekends yet, with close finishes, dominant defense and one shootout that could reshape the league conversation.
Hayes Escapes Kellenberg
Cardinal Hayes went into Kellenberg’s Homecoming and came out with a 35-34 victory. It was the Cardinals’ second consecutive one-score win after beating Middletown, Delaware, 30-28 the week before. Hayes is now 2-1 and starting to build momentum before the heart of its AAA schedule.
Farrell’s Defense Does It Again
Monsignor Farrell went on the road and beat Chaminade 28-3. The Lions remain unbeaten, but the biggest story continues to be a defense that has made scoring extremely difficult through the opening month. Now comes Farrell’s biggest test yet.
St. Anthony’s Wins the Shootout
St. Anthony’s earned its first victory by outlasting Archbishop Stepinac 48-42. Stepinac running back Nahum Pierre rushed for 330 yards and two touchdowns and added another score receiving, but the Friars answered with 21 fourth-quarter points. For St. Anthony’s, the result changes the feel of its season immediately.
Around the League
Iona Prep remained unbeaten with a 44-13 win over St. Joseph-by-the-Sea. Xavier improved to 3-0 with a 26-0 shutout of Holy Cross. Fordham Prep beat St. Peter’s 41-21, while Christ the King picked up its first win with a 24-8 victory over Cardinal Spellman.
