Week 1 gave us a little more clarity around the PSAL.
Eagle Academy II picked up another strong out-of-state win, Curtis stayed unbeaten, and John F. Kennedy Campus added one of the more impressive road results of the weekend. At the same time, defending champion Erasmus Hall opened 0-2 after another difficult non-league test.
Eagle II does it again
Eagle Academy II followed last week’s win over Friendship Collegiate with a 24-20 victory over Archbishop Hoban in Ohio. That gives the Eagles back-to-back quality out-of-state wins to start the season. It is still early, but Eagle II has done exactly what a highly regarded team is supposed to do: take on strong competition and win.
Curtis stays unbeaten
Curtis improved to 2-0 with a 35-28 road win over Newburgh Free Academy. The Warriors have now scored 76 points through two games and continue to look like one of the PSAL’s more dangerous teams. After a dominant opener, this week’s result showed they can also win a tighter game away from home.
Around the PSAL
Tottenville lost to the Back to Back Delaware State Champions Middletown by a score of 42-24.
John F. Kennedy Campus opened with a strong 36-20 road win over Monroe-Woodbury, immediately putting itself into the early-season conversation.
Sheepshead Bay bounced back from its opening loss with a 26-12 win over South Shore.
Erasmus Hall fell to 0-2 after losing 28-12 to Delbarton. Both losses have come against quality New Jersey opponents, so the record needs some context, but the Dutchmen are still searching for their first win.

Quadare Gomez, Curtis — Gomez scored three touchdowns in the Warriors’ 35-28 win over Newburgh Free Academy.
Zy’eare Schulters, Eagle Academy II — Schulters continues to be one of the key pieces in an Eagle II offense that has helped produce two impressive wins to start the year.
What It Could Mean
Eagle II continues to strengthen its early-season résumé. Curtis is 2-0 and building momentum. Kennedy has put itself on the radar. And Erasmus now has two early losses to answer for. There is still plenty of football left, but the PSAL picture is already starting to take shape.
